T H E   B I R D S   O N   O U R   I S L A N D 

Visitors to the Island will be delighted by the large number of colourful, exotic tropical bird species. There are more than 400 species of birds in the tropical lowland forest of the Sarapiquí region. A short list of birds that are frequently seen on the island includes: Montezuma oropendula, Orange-chinned Parakeet, Olive-throated Parakeet, Violaceus Trogon, Slate-tailed Trogon, Rufous-tailed Hummingbird, Little Hermit, Long-tailed Hermit, Scarlet-rumped Tanager, Golden-hooded Tanager, Chestnut-mandibled Toucan, Keel-billed Toucan, Great-blue Heron, Little-blue Heron, Great Egret, Snowy Egret, Great Kiskadee, Boat-billed Flycatcher, Bananaquit, Amazon Kingfisher, Ringed Kingfisher, American-pygmy Kingfisher, and the beautiful Sunbittern.

We have a list of over 200 species of birds that visited the island.
